Historic Graaff~Reinet with its numerous attractions ~ beautiful architecture including over 200 national monuments, coffee shops, restaurants, galleries, museums, adventure sports and tours is only 38km away.
The Camdeboo National Park with its game and famous view site over the Valley of Desolation and Spandaukop is only 56km away.
Nieu~Bethesda potters along much as it did 130 years ago, when the village was founded. Water furrows still line the wide, dusty streets. Nightscapes are unpolluted by streetlights, and the air is fresh and clean. Compassberg, the highest point in the Eastern Cape, stands sentinel over the village.
The Owl House in Nieu~Bethesda is a fascinating world of concrete sculpture, fantastic figures and mythical beasts set around a house decorated with luminous paint and multicoloured panes of glass. It was created by Helen Martins and her labourer Koos Malgas and is regarded as a masterpiece of visionary art.
